Established in 1887, it is the country’s oldest museum. Blending its 19th-century colonial architecture with a modern approach, it showcases Singapore’s history through innovative exhibits.

Visitors can explore over 700 years of history with artefacts, technology, and creative storytelling. Designated a National Monument in 1992, the museum hosts year-round exhibitions and events, including the popular Singapore Night Festival, along with programs for children and seniors.

The Peranakan Museum explores the culture of Peranakan communities in Southeast Asia and houses one of the best collections of Peranakan artefacts.

After nearly four years of renovations, the museum reopened on February 17, 2023, with new permanent galleries showcasing Peranakan objects and a modern exhibition design. A key update is the addition of contemporary art, fashion, design, and craft from local and regional artists, featured throughout the museum.

War Memorial Park is a space dedicated to honouring the memories of civilians who lost their lives during World War II. Located in the heart of the city, the park features the striking Civilian War Memorial, often referred to as “The Chopsticks” due to its four tall pillars symbolising the shared suffering of Singapore’s Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian communities.

Surrounded by lush greenery, the park provides a serene environment for reflection and remembrance, serving as a reminder of the resilience and unity that emerged from a dark chapter in the nation’s history.

Note: This is an open-air monument and can be visited at any time.

Additional Tips:

  • Transportation: The entire route is approximately 5km. Alternatively, you may wish to opt for Singapore’s efficient public transport system, including the MRT and buses.
  • Weather Considerations: You may take some time to get used to Singapore’s tropical climate if you are not from the region. We recommend you stay hydrated, wear light, comfortable clothing and consider carrying an umbrella for sudden rain showers. As the museums are air-conditioned, you may also want to bring a shawl or jacket.
  • Check Museum Timings and Exhibitions: While most of the museums follow standard operating hours, special exhibits may have specific times or require advance booking. Check the museums’ websites in advance to see if any exhibitions pique your interest.
